Kundapur, May 25: IGP (Western Zone) Harishekaran visited injured patients in hospitals who were victims of the horrible road accident that occurred at Anantawadi, Manki today morning, Thursday May 25.
With a later death, the toll has reached 8. 24 passengers have been injured with six of them being serious.
The seriously injured have been admitted to Manipal hospital and the remaining injured passengers are taking treatment in private hospitals in Kundapur, Bhatkal and Murdeshwar.
IGP speaking to reporters after visiting the injured said that accidents have increased due to widening of national highways. “I have spoken to officials of concerned department in this connection. It is necessary to inform the people by sign boards about precautions that need to be taken due to road widening. ADGP Moorthy had held meetings in this regard. He had informed about precautions that need to be taken.
“A case will be registered against those who have failed to follow instructions. Stern action will also be taken. I will personally analyze the situation when the death toll is more than two people in accidents. I will directly hold discussions with SP, ASP and the agency which is constructing the road. Suitable action will be taken if the work is not performed properly,” he added.
“Rs 5,000 each has been released to the injured persons through the revenue department. I will be bringing the necessity of additional funds to the notice of deputy commissioner and district in charge minister and try to get more funds. The police department is prepared to provide necessary help to the injured.” he informed.
Karwar SP Vinayak Patel, DySP Pravin Kumar and police circle Inspector Manjappa were present.
Some of the injured are Sunitha (43), Prashanth(23), Iranna (35), Gorappa (29), Sumitra(15), Kavitha(25), Babu Ganapathi(22), Venkatesh(48), Suma(18) and Vijaya(4).

Bhatkal: Tempo-bus collision, 7 die, 25 injured

Bhatkal, May 25: As a result of collision between a tempo and a bus, 7 persons died and 25 persons sustained injuries.
The accident took place at Manki near here in the early hours of Thursday, May 25.
A VRL bus traveling from Mangaluru towards Belagavi and the tempo moving from Dharwad to Dharmasthala, carrying people to attend a wedding ceremony, collided at Manki. 6 persons from the tempo and the driver of the VRL bus died.
VRL Bus Driver Umesh (35), tempo driver Nagappa Ganigar (46), Divya Kordikar (23), whose wedding was scheduled on May 27, Nagesh Shet (47), Sudesh Shet (38), Subramanya (15) and Pooja Shet are the deceased persons.
Out of the 7 deceased, 3 died on the spot, 2 died on the way to Manipal and 2 died at Bhatkal government hospital.
After hearing about the accident, Bhatkal DySP Shivakumar, CPI Suresh Naik Honnavar CPI Kumaraswamy and other police personnel rushed the spot and helped the victims. Shet are the deceased persons.
Injured have been taken to nearby hospitals.
8 ambulances from all nearby towns were used to transport the injured to hospitals in Bhatkal, Udupi and Manipal.
Manki police are investigating.
