Mangaluru, May 19: With an aim to help public and listen to their grievances, mayor Kavita Sanil and MCC commissioner Mohammed Nazeer will host a live phone-in programme from May 23 between 10 am and 11 am. The programme will be held once in a month.
Addressing mediapersons here on Friday May 19, the mayor said, "People going through water related issues and other civic problems can call 0824-2220301 or 0824-2220318 and give us details. The programme which will be held once in a month will be a medium for people to get in touch with me, commissioner Nazeer and head of other departments of MCC directly. We will make sure that their problem will be addressed at the earliest.
"I had attended a workshop at New Delhi where we had a brief discussion on disaster management. During the workshop, discussions were held on how to tackle difficult situations during natural disasters. We will set up an emergency cell consisting of 10 members to help people during emergency. The members will be trained by specialists from Bengaluru. We will also purchase emergency equipments so that we can be ready to face any situation. I have even instructed the concerned department to set up three alert towers in the district for the early dissemination of cyclone and tsunami. The alert towers can disseminate warning within a radius of 3 km and the operational centre will be in Bengaluru," she informed.
Malavoor Dam
Speaking on the polluted Malavoor dam water, Kavitha Sanil said, "The officials of pollution board are trying to shield industrialists and blaming Mangaluru City Corporation for the discharge of untreated sewage water into the river from the main wet well. We have generator back up and therefore, sewage water is not discharged into the river whenever there is any power faliure. During the visit to the dam none of the locals blamed the MCC. The water is being polluted by a pipeline which comes through Kenjar and it belongs to SEZ area."
MCC commissioner Mohammed Nazeer, MCC chief whip Shashidhar Hegde and others were present.
