Udupi, May 6: Deputy commissioner of the district, Priyanka Mary Francis, said that all the processes relating to expansion of national highway at Padubidri downtown have been completed and the land has been acquired by the central government. She said that those who are yet to vacate their land and premises have been served with intimations, setting deadline of May 6 for moving out. "Everyone has to vacate the land by Saturday May 6. No extension will be permitted," he stressed.
She noted that businessmen in Padubidri town had represented to the administration, seeking one more month to vacate their land. "We are under pressure from people to complete the road works at the earliest. Rightful owners of the land have been given enough time already. No more time will be given. Compensation was disbursed to those who produced documents of ownership, and the balance amount has been deposited in the court. The taluk magistrate will take steps to take the land into possession with help from the police," she clarified.
Taluk magistrate, tahsildar Maheschandra, said that legal steps will be taken to acquire land that has not yet been vacated by the people after the deadline of May 6 evening.
