Washington, May 5 (IANS): US President Donald Trump has invited his Colombian counterpart Juan Manuel Santos to the White House for talks, administration officials said.
The meeting, scheduled for May 18, will discuss bilateral and regional issues, including implementation of a peace accord reached between the Colombian government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, Xinhua news agency quoted the officials as saying in a statement.
The two leaders will also talk about engagement on shared security objective.
In addition, the meeting will cover topics including "countering democratic lapse in Venezuela", the statement said.
According to the Colombian Embassy in Washington, Santos will also meet with US Vice President Mike Pence and other Congressional leaders, including House Speaker Paul Ryan.
