Mumbai, Mar 22: The festival of colours, Holi, was celebrated with great fervour in the financial capital on Saturday amidst tight security arrangements.
Scores of people across age groups were seen splashing and applying the traditional "gulal" and other synthetic colours on each other while many chose to celebrate it in an eco-friendly way by using "safe" colours.
Youngsters were particularly seen enjoying throwing water balloons at people across the city.
Celebrations were organised in various localities with special provisions of water canons being made to turn the event into a "rain dance" party.
Bollywood was not far behind in celebrating the event with programmes organised across the north west suburbs, dotted with homes of film stars.
Lyricist Javed Akhtar and his activist-actress wife Shabana Azmi are throwing a bash at their Juhu home today.
However, the famed Holi celebrations at the Bachchans' residence has been cancelled due to the demise of Amitabh's mother Teji earlier this year.
The revelry kicked-off with the lighting of pyres signifying the burning of demoness 'Holika' in every corner last night.
After playing all through the morning, revellers will return home to a treat of the traditional "puran poli" which will be followed by an afternoon siesta.
Salaried employees have been enjoying a four-day "festive weekend" which started with Id-e-Milad on Thursday followed by Good Friday the next day.
