Shivamogga: Accident near Sagar - five die, seven injured

Shivamogga, Apr 20: A private bus and a car got involved in a head-on collision near Joginagadde-Manchale on national highway 206, some distance away from Sagar in the district on Wednesday April 19 evening. Five persons including four from a single family, who were seated inside the car, lost their lives instantly.

The motor bike rider survived with injuries. Six persons travelling in the bus too suffered injuries. The car was was moving towards Sagar, while the bus was on its way to Shivamogga from Sagar.

The persons who got killed in this accident were Neelakantappa (60) from Nadahalli in Sorab taluk, his wife, Kariyamma (55), son, Mohan (35), daughter-in-law, Shruti, and car driver, Krishnamurty Balasagodu (48). The family members had visited a village near Konandur in Thirthahalli taluk to take part in a marriage function before undertaking return journey via Sagar when the accident occurred.

It is gathered that the car driver was trying to overtake a motor bike moving ahead when the car collided with a bus coming from opposite direction. Eyewitnesses said that the bus pushed the car for a distance of around 100 metres before coming to a stop. The bus driver fled from the spot after the incident.
