Mumbai Mar 19: Mahanagar Telecom Nigam Ltd, the state-owned telecom service provider organised All India BSNL/MTNL Badminton Tournament at the Shahaji Raje Sports Complex, Andheri.

The 6-day tournament which began on March 13, concluded on March 18. 

A total of 23 teams from BSNL and 2 teams from MTNL will be participated in the tournament.

Each individual team from BSNL represented different states across India and the teams from MTNL represented the Delhi and Mumbai circles.

This mega national event witnessed a total of 205 participants, including male and female employees of BSNL and MTNL fighting it out to win in categories such as Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles etc.

The main motto of organizing such a tournament is to use sports as a platform to bring together two of the leaders in the Indian telecommunication industry. The tournament enabled employees of both organizations to compete in the sporting arena while sharing nationwide developments in the field of telecommunication. This tournament also encouraged BSNL/MTNL employees interested in sports to develop further interest in the game and move ahead to compete in the national as well as international level.

The opening ceremony of the tournament was graced on March 13 by S.P Pachari, Director (HR), MTNL  J. Gopal, Executive Director who was the Guest of Honour and  Ami Shah, former Arjuna Award winner and a well-known badminton player who has won multiple national and international tournaments.
