Mumbai, Mar 18: Mumbaikars’ were mesmerized by the enchanting and graceful Odissi dance performance on Sunday March 16, during Marico Evening, organized by leading FMCG major Marico Limited at the Carter Road amphitheatre, located at Bandra (West). The evening caught on the spirited mood of its enthralled audience who thoroughly enjoyed the live performance by students of Smitalaya.

Odissi is one of the earliest classical dance styles of India and has its roots in the temples. Indian art is a spontaneous expression of sincere devotion to God. The artiste in her devotion is united with the Almighty and feels herself one. 

'Smitalaya' was established in fond memory of late veteran Bollywood actress Smita Patil. The students are being trained by international artiste Jhelam Paranjape who was conferred with 'Kumar Gandharva Award.’  Jhelum Paranjape is the director of `Smitalaya` while it aims to teach Odissi and broaden the concept of dance in general as a visual communicator and educator.

The event was held without any entry tickets as part of series of ‘Marico Evenings’ which are regularly held at Carter Road amphitheatre.

Marico Limited has always associated with Carter Road Residents’ Association for the upkeep of amphitheatre and organizing events regularly at this venue.  Harsh Mariwala, chairman and managing director of Marico Limited, also a resident of Bandra takes personal interest in the up keep of this venue.
