Ajman, Mar 16: Gulf Medical College and Cairo University (Kasr Al Ainy, Faculty of Medicine) organized a joint conference on Organ Transplantation – Medical and Surgical Aspects, on Saturday, 15th of March 2008 at Gulf Medical College Ajman.

His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Majid Bin Saeed AL Nuaimi, Chairman Ruler’s Court Ajman inaugurated the conference. His Excellency Sheikh Mohamed Bin Saqr Al Qassimi, Assistant Under Secretary, Ministry of health and Director Sharjah Medical District and His Excellency Hamad Taryam Al Shamsi, Director Ajman Medical District were present on the occasion.

Later, the team had an audience with His Highness Sheikh Ammar Bin Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman and appraised him about the joint activities to be undertaken by Gulf Medical College and Cairo University.

Speaking at the conference Professor Ahmed Sameh Farid, Dean Faculty of Medicine, Kasr Al Ainy, Cairo University said that Cairo University is one of the oldest universities in the region and is happy to join hands with a young institution to promote joint activities in the fields of Library services, Joint research activities and faculty/student exchange programs. Prof. Ashraf Hatem, Director General of Hospitals at Cairo University gave a presentation about Kasr Al Ainy titled History Inspires the Future.

In a press release issued by the Health Communications Division of the college, Thumbay Moideen, President Gulf Medical College said that this is one of our landmark events and we are happy to join hands with the prestigious Cairo University. We are looking forward to many joint activities including education and professional development.
There is an urgent need for a bone marrow registry for the Middle East region alone, urged experts at the Joint Conference on Organ Transplantation, Medical and Surgical Aspects being held at Gulf Medical College here yesterday.
One of the highlights of the conference was the talk by Dr Omar A. Fahmy, Professor of Internal Medicine and Clinical Haematology, Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University. He said, the region was faced with two major diseases -  Thalassaemia and a severe form of anemia.  There is also a lack of basic information about several diseases including these two as there are no statistics and field surveys available, he said. He recommended the need to upgrade resources, statistics, published data and expertise as well as to collaborate on scientific research.
Over 150 delegates from Ministry Hospitals, private hospitals and clinics from all over the country participated in the conference.

Health Communications Division of Gulf Medical College plans and organizes many conferences and workshops at regular intervals. They have announced their next conference, which is an International Conference on Nursing in the month of May, details of which will be released very soon.
