Muscat, Mar 12: Oman is likely to introduce a new rental law soon to redress the problems faced by tenants in view of sharp increase in rents, Times of Oman learnt yesterday.
According to sources, the Rent Committee formed by the government to deal with the issue has forwarded its recommendations which include a seven per cent annual cap on rent increase. The law, if enacted, will also prevent landlords from evicting tenants before the expiry of the contract, which the committee has recommended to be for four years for residential properties and seven years for commercial properties.
