Mangaluru woman who lived in Canada sans passport for 13 years deported

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Mar 20: The Canadian government has deported Crasta Anne Flavia (52), a native of this city for living in that country without any valid documents. It is gathered that she had lived in Canada without any passport or other documents for 13 years before getting expelled from there. Flavia was taken into custody on her arrival at Mumbai on Friday March 17 from Canada.

On being produced in a court in the metro, Flavia was remanded to custody till Monday March 20.

It is gathered that Flavia was divorced by her husband in 2002. Flavia came to know a travel agent from the city who procured a fake passport for her. He charged Rs 50,000 for getting the passport. Flavia claims that after reaching Canada, the agent went missing along with her passport and other documents. She was granted an asylum there, which was renewed every year for the last 13 years.

On the basis of this information, the officials are trying to connect the details and match with the case that pertains to the year 2004.

In Montreal, Flavia succeeded in getting asylum but when she sought permanent residence there in the recent past, the court objected to her request. It is gathered that she had worked for a private firm and also as a domestic help when in Canada. After the Canadian government refused to extend the asylum or grant permanent residential status to her, Flavia approached Indian high commission at Ottawa, which issued emergency certificate to enable her to return to India. Senior inspector of Sahar police station, B T Mukhedkar, stated that Flavia faces a case of cheating immigration officials. He said that the department is looking at how she cleared immigration formalities and then lived in Canada for 13 years without any documents.

Prabhakar Tripathi, an advocate who represents Flavia, says that his client had been cheated by the travel agent who had arranged her passport and visa.

Absolutey you are right Mr. Shetty and I feel there an element of truth in your saying....
Prima facie, she is a divorcee and we do not know exactly what is her case and what made her to take this step. She is better than any other corrupt politician or black marketeer.

Last year, my friend went to London and as a visitor, he exited from Dovar thru English Channel to Calais in France. The officer did not stamp his exit in his passport at Dovar. However, the entries in France, exit entry in Rome and arrival entry in India are stamped in passport. He got a letter from London Home Office that he is overstaying in UK and they would take action. My friend sent to them scanned copies of passport, but still now they are confused how he exited at Dovar. The officer may have drunk on duty. Still UK says, my friend is hiding in UK.

The UK does not have formal exit immigration controls, but the UKBA do receive details of who goes from most transport providers. So either Eurostar or Ferry staff failed to scan and send details to UKBA or he traveled via a provider who does not do this.

You are correct Mr. Hegde, current PM, Justin, the selfie PM welcomes refugees only from Muslim countries irrespective of their background - murderers, terrorists, isis - you name it. Only criteria seems to be you got to be Muslim. They are welcomed with everything a Canadian tax payer should receive but not. That is the very sorry state of Canada today. Justin is becoming a dictator by the day just like what is happening in our own India. I pity the people in Canada who paid heavy taxes all their life and whatever savings they did and contributed to the Government seems to be evaporating under the current PM. The funniest thing I read was, this PM is welcoming the refugees with winter coats made by a company called Canada Goose which no one can afford to buy as each of these jackets costs more than C$ 600.00 a piece. He even wants to provide perfectly matched colors to each family!!!! So, in view of this, a person who lived 13 years some what legally, paid taxes got deported why? She is not a Muslim.

@Gurudath ,Mangalore ,dont blame canadians.Afterall they didnt compell her to work..still they allowed so far Asyl and last sent her back.Other countrys might have put her inside for years for not having proper documents.Onething I dont understand, she is a divorcee, divorced in India or Canada?does she not have any such documents ,which her People could send or copies of documents at home.?who was her sponser?one cant enter Canada simply so.without visa formalities. It Looks bit suspicious to me.Canadian consulate who gave a visa(fake or real)should also having somedocu.?Well now she is back. Why should Indian officials Arrest her?afterall she has a document from Indian consulate.why simply Harass one?Hope her things will be cleared soon. Its a headache when such things happen.

She is cheated by a FEKU travel agent giving her Passport & Visa both,
She is not at all fault,
How can we check the authenticity of an FEKU agent while he is applying passport to us like all other agent? and visa / emigration clearance like other brokers?
He must be having hand in gloves with Sahara Airport authorities like it is called 'pushing' in emigration.
Why authorities allowing to run those agents office without license by taking bribe and catching victims.
Is it like authorities allowing to sell sell Bicycles for shop owner and catching cycle riding innocent children ?

Being the 2nd largest (area wise) country in the world, with population less than 4 crores, the atmosphere is very relaxed. Canada never imprisons persons who overstayed, but only deports. They never ask for any identity card of visitors or others. There are many Indians, who went on visitors visa and live in Canada. Unlike UK and other countries, they do not seem to check the over staying people, unless people ask for help, govt does not come to know about illegal stay.

    Shankar,

When 99% of the world population does the same mistake, its not termed as wrong. Look at asylum seekers all around the world - all are alike. First they enter by hook/crook and then pester the host country as a culprit. We have several in India, entering from all four sides, just as Indians go seeking migration/asylum to the West/East.

Good news is that we have a place to return, unlike Syria/Libya, etc. However, her mistake is primarily having traveled through a fake PP. Fist let her clear that charge, next later.
