Sisodia pitches for tax relief to low-budget, educational films

New Delhi, Mar 17 (IANS): Delhi's Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Thursday pitched for tax relief to low-budget and educational cinema in the country.

Sisodia, who also holds the finance portfolio, raised the issue of tax exemption during the GST (Goods and Services Tax) Council meeting.

The meeting was chaired by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and attended by representatives from all states.

"If we don't provide tax relief to low-budget and educational cinema, it will cease to exist," Sisodia tweeted after the meeting.

"I've requested GST Council to consider the cinema tax exemption issue seriously. It is important not only for (the) industry but for (the) society as well," he added.
