Bengaluru, Mar 13: Senior Congress leader from Karnataka and AICC general secretary B K Hariprasad has tendered his resignation to his party post and membership of the AICC Working Committee owning moral responsibility for the Congress party’s dismal performance in elections to the Zilla Parishads of Odisha.
Hariprasad, who hails from coastal Dakshina Kannada, said the Congress party had performed very badly in elections held to zilla parishads of Odisha.
The BJP has ousted the Congress from the position of the principal opposition party in the elections to the local bodies in Odisha.
The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has emerged as single largest party winning 473 ZP seats while the BJP has improved its tally to 297. The Congress has won merely 60 seats.
Congress leaders of Odisha blamed the AICC General Secretary Hariprasad, who is in-charge of the state, for the party’s drubbing in ZP polls.
Asked whether he would quit the Congress, Hariprasad said: “I am loyal party worker. In my wildest dream I will not think of quitting the party.’’
