Udupi, Mar 13: In a strange incident, a doctor who was moving to Mumbai in his car from the town, found to his dismay that the staff at Gundmi tollgate had debited four lac rupees to his account instead of Rs 40. The doctor concerned had used his debit card to pay toll charges. Sources said that the incident took place on the night of Saturday March 11.
The doctor, who was taken back at the prospect of losing that much money, had to wait till morning to get refund of the excess amount debited.
It is said that the doctor had started from here for Mumbai at around 9.30 pm on Saturday. He offered his ATM card at Gundmi tollgate, and moved ahead after collecting receipt, without verifying it. However, he was consternated after finding that the message he received from the bank had put the amount debited to his account as four lac rupees. The doctor, who had reached Kota by then, checked the tollgate receipt, and found that the tollgate staff had swiped his card for four lac rupees allegedly by mistake.
He returned to the tollgate, took the staff there to task, and asked the policemen there to see that action is taken and excess amount is refunded. The staff promised to refund him the excess amount, but expressed helplessness to do so immediately as they did not have enough cash at the time. The doctor insisted on getting the refund, and in the early hours of Sunday, left after the tollgate staff pooled together enough money and paid to him the excess amount.
As the doctor, who had to wait for the entire night to get his refund, did not lose anything at the end, he preferred not to file any complaint, it is gathered.
