Eibar play 2-2 draw against Real Sociedad

San Sebastian (Spain), Mar 1 (IANS): Pedro Leon's stoppage-time goal gave Eibar a 2-2 draw against Real Sociedad in the La Liga here.

Hoping to overtake Atletico Madrid for fourth place in La Liga, the hosts started with maximum enthusiasm on Tuesday and took a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute with a header by Juanmi, reports Efe.

But Eibar maintained their composure and scored an equaliser in the 26th minute, when Escalante scored with a header off a corner kick.

The tenor of the match changed dramatically in the second half, as Eibar's Florian Lejeune picked up a second yellow card and was sent off.

Mikel Oyarzabal squandered a clear chance for Sociedad and just as the hosts' numerical superiority appeared to be taking its toll on Eibar, Juanmi earned his second yellow card of the night with a pointless foul in midfield just before the hour mark.

Approaching the 70th minute, Yoel brought down Sociedad's Inigo Martinez in the area and the referee awarded a penalty, provoking a protest from coach Mendilibar whose repeated intrusions ended with his being sent off.

Carlos Vela calmly converted to put Sociedad ahead 2-1.

A shot from Oyarzabal skimmed over the crossbar before Leon's dying-seconds goal to secure the draw, which leaves Sociedad in fifth, tied with Atleti on points but with a smaller goal difference.
