Mangaluru, Feb 27: A symposium on Konkani short story collection’ Vodlem Fest’ authored by Dr Edward Nazareth was held at Sandesha here on Sunday, February 27.

Concepta Fernandes from Akashavani Mangaluru spoke on the values and virtues of various short stories and how these stories depict the changes that has taken place over the past four decades on the life of people of the region.

“Dr Edward Nazareth can characterize various people of different profession. Nature lives in his stories. As one reads the stories, the characters are brought alive.” she said.

Andrew D’Cunha, the renowned Konkani poet and writer, presented his paper on the techniques of the short stories in Vodlem Fest. He said many of the short stories were on the contemporary issues and give a vivid picture of the society where the author has lived.

Andrew narrated how the short stories, though they have an ‘end’ in the book, actually kindle a new beginning in reader’s mind. He called upon the author to transcript the stories in Roman script and publish in a blog so that the younger generation could read and know how our society has evolved over the years.

Dolphy Lobo, the writer, editor and publisher chaired the symposium.

Cyril G Sequeira compered the programme.

J F D’souza, the organizer, proposed vote of thanks.

Several Konkani writers participated and expressed their views.
