Filmed, shamed by moral police on V-Day, young man kills self

Kochi, Feb 24 (Agencies) : A 23-year-old man, identified as Aneesh, a native of Attappadi, who was filmed and shamed by moral vigilantes on Valentines Day committed suicide at his home in Kerala's Palakkad district on Thursday.

According to an NDTV report, the man was with a female friend at a beach in Kollam, when a group of five men approached them and grilled them with a vulgar line of questioning. Apparently, the woman was relieving herself in the bushes as there was no public toilet around. The gang attempted to attack her. The young man who attempted to defend her was also thrashed by the gang.

The entire episode was videotaped and was shared on social media.

The incidence triggered outrage in the state, prompting an assurance from the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. "Such criminal activities will not be tolerated in Kerala," he said. The men were eventually arrested after the couple approached the police.

Kerala has off late witnessed a hike in moral policing cases. Recently a Thiruvananthapuram based couple live streamed harassment by police officers on Facebook.

I can understand the youth who felt very humiliated when these youths in name of moral policing take video of a woman during relieving herself and later attacking ,video was shared in media. They were not there doing moral policing but I am sure hunting for people to take a video of some un pleasent scenes.to enjoy later themselves,or to sell in media.such people should be punished utmost.unfortunately our govt.or police dont do anything but humiliate the victims still.sad he suecided,He could have bravely stood to his act of defending his girl friend .may his soul rest in peace.

Hatred begets Hatred. Hatred gets mutated into potent forms with passage of time. The unemployed goons who are filled with hatred towards minorities and create an issue on Valentine day shall be immediately arrested under murder charges. An example shall be set so that in the next valentine such unfortunate incidents do not repeat.

Suitable clauses need to be added/changed in law according to the present global trend. We just cannot isolate ourselves. RIP Aneesh.
