Beltangady: SDM students create Guinness World Record with Rubik's cube

Beltangady, Feb 20: The Guinness Book of World Records has recognized the creation of giant Rubik's cube with mosaic of famous personalities, Charlie Chaplin and Mr Bean, on two sides, as a new world record. Prathvish, a student of SDM Engineering College, had led the feat in which 4,500 Rubik's cubes were used.

Speaking after handing over the certificate of recognition issued by the Guinness Book of World Records, Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari, Dr D Veerendra Heggade said, "We have been extending support and encouragement to arts and other hobbies of students in addition to imparting education in SDM group of educational institutions. The RUDSET institute being run by the group has won national acclaim. SDM Educational Society has always been backing such achievements."

Dr Hegggade stated that cubes used for this achievement have already been distributed to 500 students, duly imparting them training on how to solve the cube. He said that remaining 4,000 cubes will also be given to students. He wished that this art, which fortifies intelligence, will spread far and wide.

Prathvish K Bhat, final year student of SDM Engineering College, who deserves full credit for creating this record, said that under his guidance, students had created pictures on 14.981 square metres as against the minimum yardstick of 13.41 square metres prescribed by the Guinness. Shivaprasad Ajila, Prof Ganapati Bhat Kulamarva and Vivek Prasad Mada had taken part during the feat as records category experts.

Dr Heggade handed over certificates to Prathivsh and also 20 other students who had helped him in the task by assembling the cubes into different formations. Hemavathi V Heggade, secretary of SDM Educational Society, Dr B Yashovarma, college principal, Dr Suresh, teaching faculty, Dr S P Hegde, Prof Satyanarayana, Prof Manoj T Gadiyar, parents of Prathvish and others were present.
