Mangaluru, Feb 16: The city crime branch (CCB) police on Wednesday February 15 arrested two persons for selling ganja at Bejai here. Five kg of ganja was seized from them.
The arrested have been identified as Abdul Ansad C H (27), a resident of Manjeshwar, originally from Bantwal, and Uday Kumar Rai (30) from Yekkur, presently residing in Kasargod.
Based on credible information that ganja was being peddled in Mangaluru city, the CCB police on Wednesday arrested the duo red-handed from a spot opposite Surabhi hotel in Bejai.
The police recovered five kg of ganja and three mobile phones, altogether worth Rs 1.66 lac.
During interrogation, the police learnt that the accused had purchased the ganja at Idukki district in Kerala and had brought it to Mangaluru to sell.
Among the accused, Uday Kumar Rai already faces six ganja peddling cases in Panambur, Mangaluru East, Barke, Bajpe and Kasargod police stations.
The accused as well as the seized ganja have been handed over to Urwa police for further investigation.
The arrest operation was carried out on the directions of police commissioner Chandra Sekhar, and under the guidance of DCPs Shantaraju and Dr Sanjeeva Patil. The operation was led by CCB inspector Sunil Y Naik.
