Udupi, Feb 16: "Kaup, which has recently become a municipality, has emerged as the best municipality in the state and therefore, being looked upon as a role model to emulate among all the newly created municipalities in the state on account of efficient implementation of various projects, judicious use of grants, and dynamic functioning. The responsibility of retaining this position and continuing in top slot rests on our shoulders," said MLA and former minister, Vinay Kumar Sorake.
Sorake was speaking after initiating works valued at about Rs 4.63 crore being undertaken in different wards of Kaup municipality, handing over subsidy sanction letters to 119 beneficiaries of housing project, and also initiating the plan to issue identity cards to street vendors.
"Kaup lighthouse is world famous. Likewise, we should take a pledge to win global recognition for our municipality and discharge our duties towards making this happen. Let us build Kaup municipality without compromising on anything, without fear or favour, and without political considerations. We have already implemented projects worth crore of rupees within this municipal limits. In course of time, grants towards more projects will be released," he stated.
Projects worth Rs 4.63 crore, which will be implemented at kaup, Uliyaragoly, Mallar, and Muloor within the municipal limits, were given initiation at the function. Sanction letters representing subsidy amounting to Rs 339.4 lac to 119 beneficiaries under Vajpayee Housing Scheme were distributed relating to the year 2015-16. Symbolically, 15 identity cards were handed over to street-side vendors.
Chairman of Kaup Town Planning Authority, Kaup Diwakar Shetty, municipal president, Soumya S, vice president, H Usman, standing committee chairman, Abdul Hameed, leader of the opposition, Arun Shetty Padoor, municipal councillors and officials were present.
Chief officer of the municipality, Rayappa, welcomed and delivered introductory address. Revenue officer, Shashikala, proposed vote of thanks.
New office of Kaup Urban Planning Authority inaugurated, chairman takes over charge
A function relating to inaugural of the new office and taking over charge of newly created Kaup Urban Planning Authority by its first ever chairman, Kaup Diwakar Shetty, was organized in the Kaup municipal building on Wednesday February 15. The authority has jurisdiction over Uliyargoly, Kaup, Muloor and Mallaru villages within Kaup municipal limits, and also Kote-Mattu, Pangala, Majur and Uchchila villages.
Kaup MLA, Vinay Kumar Sorake, who inaugurated the office and congratulated the first ever chairman of the authority, Kaup Diwakar Shetty, expressed pride at the fact that a veteran statesman has taken over as chairman of Kaup Urban Planning Authority. "Kaup Diwakar Shetty has vision for long range development of this municipality. I am confident that Shetty will ably utilize the opportunity that has come his way, and mould Kaup municipality into a model body with his efforts," he stated.
Diwakar Shetty, who took over as the chairman of the authority, said that he will lay emphasis on giving first priority to the development of areas falling under this authority during his term of three years. He also expressed his plan to establish industries, stadium, pond, park, graveyard, walking track, and other important projects as early as possible.
