Kasargod, Feb 15: A week after a bride-to-be committed suicide at her residence in Mangaluru, the prospective groom too followed her, hanging himself at Chaliangod here on Wednesday February 15.
Chandrashekar (38), a resident of Aramangana, ended his life by hanging himself from a hoarding at Chaliangod junction here.
Chandrashekar was supposed to get married to Nandita (26), a resident of Nagori in Mangaluru, on February 13. However, just five days before the wedding, she hanged herself at her house. Her family alleged that a phone conversation with Chandrashekar had led her to commit suicide while her parents were away. The matter had reached the Kankanady police station where the girl's family demanded a thorough probe into the matter.
Chandrashekar was a fruit vendor, with a stall near Kasargod KSRTC bus stand.
On the night of Tuesday February 14, Chandrashekar left from home saying he was going to Chemnad. However, he did not return home, and frantic calls to his mobile phone from his family members went unanswered.
The incident came to light when passersby noticed Chandrashekar's body hanging from the hoarding. As news spread, his family rushed to the spot and identified the body.
The body has been shifted to the government hospital here.
Bekal police have registered a case.
