Mangaluru, Feb 12: The second day of Konkani Lokotsav 2017, witnessed a vibrant procession followed by 'Yuvotsav' held at Town Hall here on Saturday February 11. The three-day programme has been jointly organised by Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy and Kannanda and culture department.
Addressing the gathering, minister for food and civil supplies U T Khader said, "The three-day Konkani Lokotsav has made people aware about the Konkani culture and literature. Several Konkani speakers have contributed and served in various fields and they need to remembered. The academies in Karnataka have done a stupendous job in conducting various integration programmes."
President of Beary Sahitya Academy Mohammed Hanif said, "In the past three years, three academies namely Tulu, Beary and Konkani have conducted myriad integration programmes, be it in culture, literature, art or language. Today Konkani Academy under the aegis of Roy Castelino has organised such a beautiful programme to promote Konkani culture and tradition. This programme has created platform for the youth to explore their talents. The best part of this programme is that it started on time which rarely happens. I appreciate time management and those who value time. Konkani Academy has shown how to utilize funds by hosting this meaningful programme".
President of Kerala Konkani Sahitya Academy Payyanur Ramesh Pai said, "Even though the Konkani community is spread across five states, we are still united and have come under one roof to promote our language, culture and tradition. The distance between 'I' to 'we' becomes closer and strengthens through these types of programme. At the same time, it is also neccesary to dedicate time for youths to encourage them to reach higher levels."
On the occasion, ten youths who became brought laurels at state and national levels were honoured. They were Divya Jyothi, Bengaluru (art), Prasanna Prabhu (singing), Vijetha Manjunath Varnekar (Yakshagaana), Sunil (drama), Avil D'Cruz (dance), Shashi Bhusan Kini (drama), Sparsha Shenoy (Bharathanatyam), Sunil Antony (folk), Rajesh (violin) and Dr Jasmine D'Souza (yoga)
President of Konkani Sahitya Academy Roy Castelino welcomed the gathering.
Managing direcor of St Milagres Cooperative Society George Fernandes, president of taluk panchayat U K Monu, Madhav Pai, Academy registrar Devdas Pai and others were present.
Prior to the programme, an impressive procession depicting Konkani folklore and culture was taken out from Balmatta Mission Compound to Town Hall, inaugurated by cine actress Ester Noronha.
Different art forms were exhibited during the procession by nearly 400 artistes. Primarily Siddi, Kudmi, Kharvi, Huluswara, Mestha, Daldi, Kumbara, Janapada art forms, instruments like band, chende, Dollu, piano and tableaux representing various art forms were part of the procession.
Earlier in the morning, cultural programme by college students, quiz, discussion on youth literature, seminar were organised.
