Udupi, Feb 12: Consumer Court here has ordered Reader’s Digest magazine to pay compensation to the subscriber and costs for not rendering promised service.
The court ordered to pay Rs 30,000 in compensation and Rs 5,000 in damages to the complainant Dr Kajal A D’Souza from Mudarangady and others.
As per the case filed at the court, Dr Kajal had paid three subscriptions, one to herself, one to her sister Caroline D’Souza in Mumbai and Fr Denis D’Souza, by remitting Rs 1,667 to Reader’s Digest magazine owned by India Today Media Group. She was responding to a special offer which was valid for 7 days.
Dr Kajal had alleged that copies of the magazines were not sent to her and others as promised and their names were not included for the prizes for which they were eligible. She also mentioned that copies of prize list were also not sent to her and others.
When Dr Kajal complained regarding this matter to Readers’ Digest, her complaint was ignored. After that she complained to Consumer Court here and sought justice under section 12 of 1987 Consumer Protection Act.
The Court also directed Readers’ Digest to send free copies of magazines to the complainant and others from November 2016 to October 2017.
