Kundapur, Feb 11: A teacher lost his life in a collision between a bike and a bus at Hemmady here on Saturday February 11.
The deceased has been identified as Bhoju Handa (52), a resident of Hemmady.
Handa was an arts teacher at in a PU college at Koteshwar. He was also teaching yoga at Hemmady an Kattbelthur.
Arpita (11), a girl from his neighbourhood who was riding pillion with him sustained injuries and has been admitted to Chinmayee hospital here.
On Saturday morning, he went to his yoga class at Hemmady and after collecting yoga equipment from there, he proceeded to Kattbelthur. On the way, while crossing the road along the national highway, a speeding bus moving from Mumbai to Mangaluru crashed into his bike.
A grievously injured Handa was rushed to hospital by auto rickshaw drivers who were at the spot. However, he passed away later in the afternoon.
It is said that usually, Handa would take his neighbour's daughter Arpita, his nephew and another boy to yoga classes everyday. However, as the boys had exams, only Arpita accompanied him on Saturday.
Locals said that Handa was a popular and talented arts teacher, who would use his spare time to teach kids drawing and craft.
Kundapur traffic police have registered a case.
