Jeddah: Man Arrested for Damaging Mobile Towers

JEDDAH, Feb 18: Police in Jeddah have arrested a 40-year-old Yemeni national for allegedly damaging more than 20 mobile phone towers in the city and disrupting services in many residential districts.

Maintenance officials found that the malfunctioning of towers was caused by someone intentionally and that the culprit did the work on Thursday and Friday.

According to security officials who visited the sites, the man entered into mobile phone stations after breaking their outer locks and destroyed its electricity meters, thus causing malfunctioning of the network. The man moved from one district to another during the two days and damaged more than 20 mobile towers.

Police arrested the man based on information obtained from witnesses. The man has confessed to his crime and police suspect that he is not mentally sound.
