Kundapur, Feb 6: Gurukula group of educational institutions run by Bandya Educational Trust had organized 'Kite Est - 2017' at Canara Beach Koteshwara near here, in association with Team Mangalore that has earned entry into Limca Book of Records, and 'One India' Kite Team from Kerala which is identified as the first ever professional kite flyers team of India, on Sunday February 5. This happened to be the third such annual event being organized by Gurukul.
Joint chairman of Adani Udupi Power Corporation, Kishore Alva, inaugurated the festival. In his address, he said that the kites depict the heights to which one can soar by putting in constant efforts. "It also represents long term vision. Humans can reach dizzy heights if they work honestly and diligently," he added.
Director of Kannada movie, 'Kirik Party', Rishab Shetty, who was the chief guest of the inaugural, appreciated the efforts of Gurukul in organizing this programme, which he said took his memories back to his childhood.
Founder of Bandya Educational Trust, B Appanna Hegde, who presided, lamented the fact that several tourism spots in coastal Karnataka have not been developed properly. He felt that there is a need to transform beautiful beaches of the coast into tourist spots and said that programmes like kite festivals help in popularizing such spots.
On this occasion, Rishab Shetty was felicitated. Local MLA, Haladi Srinvias Shetty, joint executive officer of Bandya Educational Trust, Bandya Subhaschandra Shetty, zilla panchayat members, Laxmi Manju Billava and Shreelata Suresh Shetty, gram panchayat president, Janaki Billava, taluk panchayat member, Ramkishen Hegde, Gurukul PU college principal, Shayees Nair, and Sarvesh of Team Mangalore were present. Joint executive officer of the trust, Anupama s Shetty, welcomed and delivered introductory address.
Colourful kites in different shapes, sizes and drawings created a dream world in the sky thereafter. The kites which rose to the sky included the ones which depicted Yakshagana and Kathakkali art forms, Bharatnatyam, Ganapati, butterflies, tricolour etc.
Thousands of people who had come there from various parts of the district enjoyed every moment of the festival.
