Bantwal, Jan 27: A pedestrian was killed on the spot after a two-wheeler rammed into him near Melkar junction here on Friday January 27 evening.
The deceased has been identified as Mohan Manjappa Rai (50), a native of Virajpet in Kodagu district.
He was staying in a rented house at Kuriyadi in Ira here from several years and was working as security guard at Infosys in Mudipu.
On Friday, he along with his brother-in-law had been to a relative's house at Ira to attend a religious function. On the way back, they stopped their car at Melkar town and Rai got out to purchase some things from a shop. While he was returning to the car, a speeding bike hit him, killing him on the spot.
Rai's brother-in-law in his complaint said that besides speeding, the biker was also riding rashly.
Though Rai was rushed to hospital, he was pronounced brought dead.
Bantwal traffic police have registered a case.
Though the road at Melkar has been widened, no adequate measures have been taken to improve parking space, which has forced the commuters to park their vehicles on the roadside, locals complained.
