Udupi, Jan 13: The Kamath Circle, better known as KC is the place where students hang a lot after their classes. The place used to be crowded with students. Festivals like Holi and Deepavali were celebrated near KC. The most happening place on the Manipal University campus is all set to be history.
The buildings around KC, like the milk booth, a tailor shop, fruit and tuck shop, a gymnasium and also the basketball court have been razed out for the upcoming facility. The construction of two new basketball courts are in progress and the gym has been temporarily shifted to one of the D-Blocks with renovated features. A new are for student club activities has been created near the food court. A new auto stand is also under construction.
According to G K Prabhu, director, MIT, the ‘Student Plaza’ will give students ample space to conduct activities. It will be a much better place in about an year, he said.
Meanwhile, KC for the students of MIT was not just a place to hang about. They had an emotional connect with the circle. Several posts by alumni and students went viral on social media about memories of their days spent around the circle during college days.
The ‘Student Plaza’ may come up in another 18 months, said a release.
