Kundapur, Dec 24: Local traditional mining worker’s association submitted a letter to Kundapur assistant commissioner on December 23 requesting for permission for traditional mining.

They stated that traditional sand mining using one or two boats with government permission has been in progress for the last thirty years. “The buildings and houses could be constructed without hurdles during those days. However, the abrupt stopping of sand mining owing to political pressure is not fair,” they said. “The assistant commissioner has suggested we speak to the deputy commissioner. The sand workers and those who have bought lorries and tippers borrowing loans from banks and financial institutes depending on sand mining are unable to pay loans and are starving,” stated the sand mining workers expressing anguish.

Vijayadhara K V, B Shankera Mendon, Raju Mogaveera, Ganesh Poojary, Rajeeva Shetty, Godwin, Gangadhar Shetty and others were present.
