Udupi, Nov 5: Tipu Jayanti Virodhi Horata Samiti held a press meet on Saturday November 5 in the city, opposing the decision of the state government to celebrate Tipu Jayanti. K R Sunil, convener of Tipu Jayanti Virodhi Horata Samiti, addressing the media said, "Tipu Jayanti Virodhi Horata Samiti, Vishwa Hindu Parishath, the Bajrang Dal and other organisations will oppose the fanatic Tipu Sultan Jayanthi celebration across Mangaluru, if the state government goes ahead with its plan to observe it on November 10. Kodagu had witnessed large scale violence last year over the same decision. The clashes had claimed two to three lives. Hence, chances of violence repeating itself are high. The state government must immediately withdraw its plan to celebrate Tipu Jayanti," he said.
"In places including Keladi, Kodagu, Mysure and Chitradurga, Tipu killed and converted many Hindus and Christians into Muslims, destroyed many Hindu temples. He is a Kannada Virodhi which is clearly stated in history," he added.
District president Of Tipu Jayanti Virodhi Horata Samiti Udupi, Vilash Nayak, co-convener of the Samiti, Shrisha Nayak, Prasad and many others were present at the press meet.
