New Delhi, Nov 28 (mb): The Centre said it would set up a committee to monitor late night in-house programmes and films broadcast on television channels. “We are setting up a TV monitoring committee to check in-house programming of television channels,” information and broadcasting minister PR Dasmunsi told the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
Dasmunsi outlined a three-step approach in curbing obscenity on television. He said the first two steps in curbing obscenity was the strict implementation of the Cablenet Act and taking action against cable operators showing films having adult certification on their networks.
Replying to a question, Dasmunsi said sanctioning of films for exhibition falls under the Union list and is done by the Central Board of Film Certification under the provisions of the Cinematograph Act 1952. Norms for certification of films are the same for the entire country, he said. The exhibition of films, however, came under the purview of the states which had the right to stop or allow screening of films, he said.
