Beltangady, Jul 31: Expired medicines and other items worth lacs of rupees were found to have been disposed in residential area in the town on Saturday July 30.
People saw on Saturday afternoon that medicines, syringes, injection tubes etc in large quantities had been thrown at night near the forest department's wildlife division office here. On verification, it was found that these were the items which had become stale.
Officials of health department and health inspector of the town panchayat visited the spot and conducted inspection. It is not known whether some hospital management threw these medicines here during cleaning up of the hospital or whether any medical shop was behind this act.
The expired medicines and syringes have the potential of harming the health of general public. There are strict rules about how medicines and other such items are to be disposed off. As a rivulet also flows near the said spot, the medicines can harm the health of many people. The people therefore have demanded for finding out the culprits and take legal action against them.
