Udupi, Jul 29: “Ragging menace in colleges is dangerous for students as the future of several students are spoilt with it. Therefore the union government should introduce strict and uniform measures to stop it,” urged Udupi Chikkamagluru MP Shobha Karandlaje in Lok Sabha.
“There are innumerable reports of the spread of ragging menace. It should be done away with. An analysis of college wise and state wise incidents of ragging should be conducted and strict measures should be taken against it,” she said.
Union human resources development higher education minister for state Dr Mahendranath Pande replying to the question by MP Shobha Karandlaje said that all the colleges have been asked to receive complaints of ragging.
“As strict actions are being taken against ragging, the cases have decreased these days. UGC has started a campaign to make the educational institutes, parents and students aware of the steps taken to irradiate the menace. UGC institutes managements have been given additional powers in that direction. It has taken up toll free number to register ragging complaints and started ragging prevention committees. CBSE too is considering those measures as an important requirement to renew the licenses of institutes under it. Ragging will be eradicated completely very soon,” he said.
