Udupi, Jul 12: The personnel of Railway Protection Force (RPF) have succeeded in catching hold of a thief, who had snatched away an IPhone costing around Rs 40,000 from a girl travelling from Mangaluru to Margao by train on Monday July 11. The thief, after snatching away the phone, had rushed out of the train at Indrali railway station here.
The thief has been identified as P Ajit (22) from Malappuram, Kerala. At around 11 am on Monday, the RPF control room here had received a message from RPF control room stating that a youth aged between 20-25 years and wearing red T-Shirt and trousers had snatched away an IPhone from a girl and got down from the train moving towards Madgao when it slowed down at Udupi.
Based on information, RPF inspector, Shivaram Rathod, and other personnel started to scout various roads leading out of the railway station in the city and Manipal in search of youth fitting the above description. Finally they succeeded in finding out the culprit and arresting him. He was thereafter handed over to Manipal police station for further investigation.
Rathod has asked the railway passengers to be particularly vigilant when the train moves slowly in certain stretches and stations as the thieves many a time wait to encash such opportunities as they can run away with valuables without getting chased. He also has requested the passengers to call railway helpline No. 182 in case of such incidents and emergencies.
