Sullia, Jul 9: Karunakar, accused of murdering Vedavathi from Pergody near Mettinadka in the taluk, who stands arrested, was given to three days police custody by the local court. At the same time, Karunakar's wife, Prema, who has been arrested on the allegation of destruction of evidence, was remanded to 15 days judicial custody.
Vedavathi, wife of Pergody Jayaram, resident of Derappajjana Mane, a farmer by profession, had been killed in her house by hacking her with a sharp weapon at 3 pm on April 16 this year. When her son-in-law, Vijeth, reached home on that evening, he found Vedavathi in a pool of blood in the kitchen. Two sickles and blood-stained walls bore testimony of the savagely crime. Cupboards in the house had been searched and gold ornaments had been stolen.
A police team by Puttur assistant superintendent of police, Rishavanth, had arrested the accused. On Friday, Karunakar was produced in court.
