Madikeri, Jul 7: In an incident which occurred at Hangal village near Somwarpet in the district, a college student ended her life, having been frustrated at not receiving a call from her boyfriend. Sandhya (19), daughter of Shashidhar and B N Geetha couple and a second year BBM degree student at Kushlanagar committed suicide by hanging herself.
In this connection, the police have taken into custody Naveen, a resident of Convent Bane, Somwarpet.
It is said that Sandhya was in love with Naveen since a year. At around 11 am on Wednesday, Sandhya called Naveen, asking him to call back. As Naveen did not have enough balance in his cellphone to call her, there was delay. He conveyed this information to her by messaging her. However, frustrated Sandhya threatened him of committing suicide. Immediately Naveen got his phone recharged and made repeated calls to Sandhya. As she did not respond, he rushed to her house and found that the door was closed from inside.
As Sandhya did not open the door after repeated knocks. Naveen entered her house by breaking the door with an iron rod. He found that Sandhya had hanged herself from the beam of the roof. He immediately brought her down, and took her to the government hospital at Somwarpet. The doctors found her to have died already. The girl's relatives, who thought that Naveen was responsible for this death, thrashed him before turning him into the police station.
The girl's mother filed a police complaint expressing suspicion about Naveen's involvement in this death. Her father, who was shocked, was admitted into hospital. A case stands registered at Somwarpet police station.
