Mangaluru, Jul 3: “Even though the quantity of blood we donate is just 350 millilitres, the benefits of it to us and to the society are unlimited,” said Fr Austin Peris, the parish priest of Derebail church.
He was addressing the inaugural function of the blood donation camp in the church premises, here on Sunday, July 3.
The blood donation camp was organised jointly by Derebail parish sports club, Wenlock hospital blood bank, White Dowes and Lions club Ladyhill.
“Doctors say that during any accident most of the patients lose their life due to excessive blood loss. In this context, donated blood will save many lives. Donating blood has several benefits. It is not just the 350 millilitre of blood but it is giving life to a person. Hence I call upon everyone to donate blood. I congratulate all the organizations who organized this blood donation camp,” he said.
The blood bank officer of Wenlock hospital, Dr Sharath Kumar explained the various facts and called the people to give up the notions they have in their mind. “We get good reward if we do good deeds. Like the former president Abdul Kalam said ‘When we have harmony in the heart the world will be a good place to live in’.”
“People are hesitant to donate blood due to various pre -assumptions. While few are hesitant and few are sceptical, we have to keep in mind that we are donating the extra blood that is produced in the body and hence it causes no harm to us. Rather it generates new blood within 24 hours and our immunity system improves by doing so. Hence I call upon to donate frequently.”
The managing director of White Dowes Corine Rasquinha said that as Jesus shed his blood for us we must donate it for others.
Nursing superintendent of KMC official Mary Vas and Corine Rasquinha were felicitated by the organisers on the occasion.
Assistant parish priest of Derebail church Fr Gratian Alvares, President of Derebail parish sports club Sandesh Mascarenhas, vice-president of parish pastoral council Anil Patrao, president of Lions club Ladyhill Lidiya D'costa and others were present on the occasion.
