Kundapur, Jul 1: A peace meeting was held at Kundapur taluk panchayat auditorium on June 30. The meeting held after a long time was attended by religious leaders, people's representatives and vehicle drivers. It was special as it was led by SP K Annamalai. The gathering initially started as a peace meeting and later turned into a police and public meeting.
SP Annamalai briefed about the orders by the state government regarding precautions that are to be taken to maintain law and order in view of Ramzan festival that will be held in a week’s time. He also explained the programmes that are being undertaken by police in the district.
He said that checkposts will be erected at many places in the district borders from Hejmady to Shiroor. “The entry of strangers will be watched at each check post to prevent increasing number of crime on the
coast. The check posts will also work towards stopping illegal transport of cattle.
The police have taken measures to permanently assign a police staff at each grama. The staff will have power to solve the problems at the grama once a week. The staff will be provided appropriate training to prevent crime,” he said.
“Two highway patrol teams will work within the next four months to stop overload, high speed etc. A new police station will come up at Kandlooru in order to solve the problems there. When each religion and community lives in harmony, there will be meaning for festivities. When all live in peace, crimes stop,” he said.
Gangolli’s Sadananda Shenoy, Basruru Appanna Hegde, Hussain Haikady, Taluk panchayat president Jayashree Mogaveera spoke about what needs to be done in order to maintain peace.
