Ballari, Jun 22: A 85-second footage shared on WhatsApp had showed an officer of Jindal Steel (JSW) factory at Torangal near Sandur in the district hitting four partially clad workers of the factory with an iron rod has spread a sense of resentment. The incident reportedly happened on Monday June 20.
Those who faced this atrocity have been identified as Mahantesh, Sharanappa, Hemantaraju and Veeranagowda from Hospet taluk. It is said that they had stopped working and were taking rest in a cabin. Akash, human resources and administrative officer of soft iron unit of the factory got angry at their laziness. It is said that he got them to remove clothes from upper body, used filthy words against them, and attacked them with iron rod. This officer, it is said, happens to be the son of the personal assistant of a member of legislative council from the district.
Muhammed Rafiq, police sub-inspector of Toranagal station, said that under instructions from higher ups, he had visited the spot. He said that none of the victims of this incident are prepared to give complaint. District superintendent of police, R Chetan, too said that the police will investigate the case if the concerned give complaint.
