Puttur: Gas tanker hits car - driver killed, two injured seriously

Puttur, Jun 21: After a gas tanker collided head-on with a car at Matha near Uppinangady on Monday June 20, car driver lost his life. Two others suffered suffered injuries, and got admitted into hospital.

In this accident, Jayadev (58), resident of Hanbal near Sakleshpur, who was driving the car, sustained critical injuries. He died when being taken to hospital. His wife, Sudha (42), suffered serious injuries, while daughter, Anvitha (17), survived with minor injuries. Both of them have been admitted into a private hospital.

It is said that Jayadev was going to Mangaluru in his car from Hanbal, when his car was hit by a gas tanker that was moving from Mangaluru towards Bengaluru near Matha on national highway 75 at around 9.30 am on Monday after the tanker driver lost control over his vehicle. Sudha, who was seated in the front seat, suffered serious injuries, and the front portion of the car was badly damaged.

It is learnt that Sudha was being taken to Mangaluru for medical consultation. The locals arranged for a private vehicle to carry in the injures to hospital, immediately after the accident. The injured were shifted to an ambulance at Uppinangady.

A case about the incident was registered in the traffic police station in the town. Traffic had been disrupted after the accident. Uppinangady police later facilitated smooth resumption of traffic.
