Kundapur, Jun 18: Kundapur block Congress held protests near Kundapur Shastri circle on Saturday June 18 against Modi led NDA government over price rise of basic commodities.
The protesters questioned the promised 'Acche Din' on which BJP government was elected. The central government has failed in all fronts to fulfil the assurances made to people, they alleged.
Addressing the protesters, Youth Congress leader Vikas Hegde said, “BJP government is pushing people into darkness saying that ‘Acche Din' have come. The high price rise that was not found during sixty years of Congress rule is going on during Modi government. Why is BJP which was protesting at price rise of fifty paisa quiet now? If they are concerned about people, let them protest at least after this or suggest ways to set things right.”
Congress leader Herianna said that people's lives have deteriorated after BJP came to power at the centre. “BJP supports pro rich and ignores poor people. The Prime minister who gives excellent speeches and spends time on foreign travel is not interested in solving the problems of people in the country. People are made to pay the penalty by way of price rise for bringing BJP to power. If this is the situation after two years of BJP rule, we have to think what will be our future,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Pratapchandra Shetty said, “Congress has contributed immensely for the progress of country. Congress brought about Polio free India, RTI, Land ordinance, right to education, shelter projects, writing off farmer's loans etc and provided its own special contribution. However BJP is trying to divide the people by ignoring sixty years of Congress achievements.”
Kundapur block congress unit, Youth congress unit and women's congress units participated in the protests.
