Tokyo, May 12 (IANS): Tokyo stocks opened lower on Thursday as investor sentiment was dented by the yen's comparative strength against the US dollar.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 158.05 points, or 0.95 percent, from Wednesday to 16,420.96, Xinhua news agency reported.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 13.79 points, or 1.03 percent, to 1,320.51.
Early notable decliners comprised rubber products, transportation equipment and insurance-linked stocks.
