Tokyo, May 11 (IANS): Tokyo shares opened higher on Wednesday with market encouraged by Wall Street gains overnight and higher oil prices.
At 9.15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 226.44 points, or 1.37 percent, from Tuesday to 16,791.63, Xinhua news agency reported.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 17.07 points, or 1.28 percent, at 1, 351.97.
