Puttur, Oct 20: As the repair work on the badly damaged Shiradi Ghat is at an on-going stage, the passing of vehicles on this NH 48 has been halted temporarily.
The travellers as well as commuters on this route are facing problems aplenty and are highly inconvenienced with the closure of the road. Along with the travellers and commuters, the hoteliers and shack owners who have put up hotels and stalls on this stretch too are the worst sufferers.
What’s more, several labourers who are employed in these wayside restaurants have become jobless. To give an idea of the number of business establishments on this route, there are 50 restaurants, 200 canteens and 100 petty shops on the Uppinangady stretch at places such as Shiradi, Nellyadi, Udane, Gundya, Golitottu, Addahole, Maarahalli and Donigal.
For instance, in case of all hotels at Nellyadi which has three vegetarian and four non-vegetarian restaurants, the Mangalore-Bangalore bus passengers were their only customers. But now these joints are suffering heavy losses without customers coming in.
