Buenos Aires, May 1 (IANS): Uruguayan footballer Nicolas Lodeiro, one of Argentinian side Boca Juniors' main figures, will be out of action for at least three months due to a serious injury which will cause him to miss the 2016 Centennial Copa America with his national team.
The 27-year-old attacking midfielder tore his lateral meniscus on his left knee and needs to undergo surgery, reports Xinhua.
Boca's injury list also witnessed key player Fernando Gago who tore his Achilles tendon in a local league match against River Plate. Other Boca players, including Andres Cubas, Daniel Osvaldo, Andres Chavez and Gino Peruzzi are also unable to play due to injuries.
On Thursday, Lodeiro scored Boca's second goal against Paraguay's Cerro Porteno which caused the Argentinian side to win the match 2-1. The match took place in Asuncion (Paraguay) and was the first-leg of the Copa Libertadores de America's round of sixteen.
Lodeiro had also been called upon by the coach of Uruguay's national team, Oscar Tabarez, to join the 2016 Centennial Copa America team. The tournament will be played in the United States.
