Tokyo, Mar 3 (IANS): Tokyo stocks closed higher on Thursday as the US economy abated following upbeat data that saw shares rise overnight.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 213.61 points, or 1.28 percent, from Wednesday to finish the day at 16,960.16, Xinhua news agency reported.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 19.44 points, or 1.44 percent, to close at 1,369.05.
Notable advancers comprised marine transportation, banking and mining-linked stocks and the day's turnover was 2,538.2 billion yen ($22.22 billion).
