Mumbai, Sep 12: Monti fest was celebrated at Our Lady of Nazareth Church, Bhayander here on Saturday September 8. It was organized by Konkani Catholic Welfare Association under the leadership of George A Sequeira.
Apart from the usual "Novem Benjar" (blessing of new corns) offering of flowers and "Novem Jevonn", the association had also organized a talent contest for the little children to kindle the love of mother tongue Konkani in the young minds.
First, office-bearers entered the hall along with the people in a pink dress-code singing the hymn "sokkod sangata mellyam". Later all the children gathered together to honour Mother Mary by showering flowers on her.
Fr Elias D'Souza, of Mira Road and Fr Walter D'Souza Bhayander, offered the solemn mass.
The cultural programme started with the welcome dance of Jassica Pinto. Fr Elias, Fr Walter, Rita Carvalo, principal, Special School, Mira Road and Ivan D'Souza, famous singer of Wilfy’s troupe were the judges for talent contest.
Hilarious skits directed by Mathis Lobo, vice-president were played by Ronald Rebello, Sabin Castelino, Sacie Vegus, Grifton Tauro, Candida Fernandes, Vevina Monis and other members.
Dance programmes were contributed by Apoline Tauro and Group. George A Sequeira, president was also a master of ceremony and the event organizer.
