Udupi, Jan 27: The 3rd National Level Open Invitational Karate Championship 2016 organized by Shihan Santhosh Suvarna, organizer and assistant chief instructor and Shihan Ravikumar, chief instructor of Kobudo Budokan Karate- Do Karnataka came to a monumental end on Sunday January 24 at Mahatma Gandhi Stadium, Ajjarkad, here.
The two day championship conducted over 350 events for the students all over India. A league of 2000 participants rushed down from Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Goa and from Karnataka students of Shimmogga, Bengaluru, Mangaluru, Udupi and many more participated in the competition.
The presence of Sri Sri Laxmivara Theertha Swamiji, Sri Shiroor Matta and president of the institute added intense colors to the closing ceremony, who gave away titles of the grand championship to the winners.
K Udaykumar Shetty, president, welcome committee, Yashpal Suvarna, president, Dakshina Kannada, Co-operative Fish Marketing Federation, Sukesh Kunder Herga, member, Udupi Municipality, Nitoor Balakrishna, industrialist, Krishna G Kotian, Dr Roshan Shetty, Kiran Kumar Udyavara, Riyaz Palli, Kishore V Salian, Mahabal Poojary were present on the dais. Many other dignitaries like Raghupathi Bhat, former MLA, Udupi and event sponsors attended the programme on both the days.
The Grand Championship was held for Kata (demonstration of Karate art and skills) and Kumite (Karate combat) for the age group below 16 years and above 16 years. Along with boys, girls also upheld the strong competitive and participative spirit. The list of winners of the Grand Championship is as follows;
