The lady had claimed herself to be Monisha (35) from Chandigarh. She had escaped from a shelter for women at Payyannur in Kerala, travelled by Kannur-Bengaluru train and jumped out of the train when the train was traversing Haradi bridge near Puttur at a slow pace. This information was given by Dakshina Kannada SP, S D Sharanappa. A team of women police also visited Payyannur and collected information about the woman from there.
The woman was first found on the night of January 2 at Payyannur railway station. After Payyannur police passed on this information to railway protection force personnel, they got her admitted into 'Hope' women's care facility there. On January 3, she escaped from there, but was found the same evening at Periyaram. She was entrusted to the care of Kannur women's police, who admitted her into 'Attani' home for women.
