Mangaluru, Dec 22: Opposing the arrival of Dr Zakir Naik in city on January 2, 2016, the city unit of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti staged a protest in front of DC office, here on Tuesday, December 22.
Addressing the gathered, the state convener (samanvyak) of the Samiti, Guruprasad said, “Zakir Naik has hurt Hindu sentiments in his peace TV by making provocative comments on Lord Ganesha and in this regard many cases have been registered against him in many police stations of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi. Such person is being given the red carpet welcome by the district administration and the district in-charge minister.”
“He is a traitor. He has close relations with the masterminds of 26/11 Mumbai attacks Hafeez Saeed and Raheel Ahmed. We question minister Rai’s invitation to Zakeer Naik in the city. He has many noble men in the country to follow and not Zakeer Naik. He should not enter our district. If he comes to our city, we will hold agitation and government and the district administration will be responsible for the consequences.”
Lashing at deputy commissioner AB Ibrahim, he said, “The DC recently stated that prohibiting someone is not proclaimed in the constitution. With his statement, we feel that he is indirectly supporting the terrorists.”
State spokesperson of Hindu Mahasabha, Dharmendra Kottari said, “Without any cases, Sadhvi was arrested but in spite of having many cases, Zakeer Nayak is not arrested. Let him speak well about Islam and not hurt the sentiments of other religions. Does Islam propagate violence? I call upon my Islam brethren to join hands in stopping the event if they love peace in the society. DC has banned Togadia from entering the district. Why can’t he ban Zakeer Nayak?” he questioned.
District convenor of the Samiti, Vijaya Kumar, Pramod Malemar of Shreeram Sena were among others present on the occasion.
